Biography
Lucille Webster Holling was born on Dec. 8, 1900 in Valparaiso, IN; attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in
Chicago, where she met Holling Clancy Holling; designed theatrical scenery and costumes, and drew for fashion publications;
married Holling in 1925; designed for drama dept. on the first University World Cruise, 1926-27; with Holling, produced national
advertising art and foreign travel brochures; Lucille illustrated a number of books and together they illustrated textbooks;
among the Hollings's joint publications are
The Book of Indians (1935) and
The Book of Cowboys (1936); moved to California, and worked with her husband on books; in 1951 she designed and oversaw the construction of their
studio residence in Pasadena. She died on 31 December 1989.
Scope and Content
The papers consist of Webster family papers and photographs, design and art work by Lucille Webster Holling , personal papers
of Lucille Webster Holling, including recipes, notes for a biography of Holling Clancy Holling and diaries, and a plaster
of Paris mask of Holling Clancy Holling by Lucille Webster Holling.
