    Abstract: Carroll John Daly (1889-1958) was a crime fiction writer. His publications include The snarl of the beast (1927), Murder won't wait (1933), Mystery of the smoking gun (1936), and Ready to burn (1951). He also wrote dozens of stories for pulp detective magazines and television scripts. The collection consists of 163 typescripts of short stories, a novella, television scripts, clippings, correspondence, legal records, a bibliographical list of Daly's work, and magazines in which Daly is mentioned or his work reviewed.

    Biography

    Daly was born on September 14, 1889 in Yonkers, New York; became crime fiction writer; created detective Race Williams, who appeared in such novels as The snarl of the beast (1927) and The hidden hand (1929); wrote other books, including Murder won't wait (1933), Emperor of evil (1936), Mystery of the smoking gun (1936), and Ready to burn (1951); also wrote dozens of stories for pulp detective magazines and television scripts; he died in 1958.

    Collection consists of 163 typescripts of short stories, a novella, television scripts, clippings, correspondence, legal records, a bibliographical list of Carroll John Daly, and magazines in which Daly is mentioned or his work reviewed.
