    Scope and Content

    The collection contains files from the earlier years when Noel Young owned and operated Capra Press, and later years when Robert [Bob] E. Bason owned and operated it.

    Arrangement

    Series I: Capra Press / Noel Young Years - contains the following subseries:
    1. Business /Working Files. Primarily business records such as contracts, distribution and sales reports, signed correspondence, reviews, printing contracts and orders, royalty statements, and other related materials. Subseries are: Back-to-Back Series (including Edward Abbey, Raymond Carver, Gretel Ehrlich, Tess Gallagher , Ursula LeGuin, Anaïs Nin, Lawrence Clark Powell, and Thomas Sanchez); Special Authors (including Raymond Carver, Urusla Le Guin, Henry Miller, and Lawrence Clark Powell); and Working Titles (a mix of files organized by working title or author, including Edward Abbey, Raymond Carver, Barnaby Conrad, Gretel Ehrlich, Brian Fagan, Frank Frost, Tess Gallagher, David Gebhard, Frank Kelly, Ursula Le Guin, Ken Millar, Margaret Millar, Anais Nin, John Sanford, Max Schott, and Clifton F. Smith). Boxes 1-6.
    2. Correspondence - General. Mainly incoming author and business correspondence of Capra Press through 2001. Correspondents include: Edward Abbey, Gerald Durrell, Gretel Ehrlich, Tess Gallagher, Frank Kelly, David Krieger, Ursula LeGuin, Bradford Murrow, Daniel Pearlman, Lawrence Clark Powell, Ward Ritchie, John Sanford, Ralph Sipper, and Joseph Wambaugh. Box 7.
    3. Distributor Files. Includes Consortium Records (dealings with Consortium, the distributor for Capra books, as well as reports, agreements, and annual files) and Special Accounts (foreign rights, distribution rights, and records). Boxes 8-9.
    4. Publicity and Review Files. Include publicity releases, copies of reviews and other publicity information; some public relations questionnaires filled out by the authors; oftentimes pictures of authors, author correspondence regarding publicity, alternative covers and design elements, and other miscellaneous PR information. Arranged, for the most part, by title. Boxes 10-12.
    5. Miscellaneous Business Materials. Includes later publicity and promo materials, as well as accounting and inventory information, and contracts. Box 13.
    6. Photographs - of Capra authors, Capra offices and elsewhere of Capra displays. Box 14.
    Series II: Capra Press/ Robert E. Bason Years.
    1. Manuscript Files. Mainly manuscript drafts of works, some with corrections and annotations, along with some proofs, advertising, sample covers, and related materials, for more recent Capra publications, 2000-2004. Boxes 15-19.
    2. Miscellaneous Manuscripts - not published by Capra Press. Mainly uncorrected typed manuscripts, along with some supporting correspondence, and related materials. Boxes 19-20.
    Series III: Oversize. Includes posters, broadsides, and signs, mainly relating to Capra publications. Boxes 21-22 and Map Cabinet 21/9.
    Series IV: Computer Files. Box 23.
