Biography/Administrative History
Steckel was a photographer in 19th century Los Angeles. Source: Biographies of Western Photographers by Carl Mautz: Born
in Allenton, Pennsylvania, December 20, 1864. Worked in a photographic parlor in Philadelphia, 1877-78; operated his own
parlor in Allenton, ca. 1878-82; in real estate business in Kansas City, ca. 1882-88. Partner in photographic studio in Los
Angeles with Lamson, opposite the Hollenbeck Hotel, 1888-90; opened his own gallery, 1890. Located at 220 South Spring Street,
1896; 336 1/2 South Broadway, 1905-20s.
