    Scope and Contents

The World War II War Crimes and Battles Collection (1939-June 30, 1952; undated) contains one box, 1.5 linear ft., and consists of 260 clippings of newspapers in two scrapbooks. The first scrapbook contains a variety of German and American newspapers from 1939 to October 16, 1945, including German propaganda newspapers from Berlin in 1940. The second scrapbook, titled "The Truth about the War Crimes," is a compilation of American newspapers from September 30, 1941-June 30, 1952, featuring news articles on the Nuremberg trials, Mussolini's death, battles, political cartoons, Herman Goering, and Japan.

    Biographical / Historical

World War II began on September 1, 1939, with the invasion of Poland, and ended on September 2, 1945, after the surrender of Japan. Germany surrendered four months prior, on May 8, 1945. During the Nuremberg trials held between November 20, 1945, and October 1, 1946, many high-ranking Nazi officials were tried for their participation in war crimes following World War II.
