    Biographical / Historical

The Westfield Park Recreation and Parkways District No. 12 formed in 1957 by a vote of residents to establish a self-governing entity to develop and maintain the Westfield area of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The District is a state sanctioned legal entity governed by Section 5780 of the California Public Resources Code and has among its duties to provide for beautification and recreation within the Westfield designated area. The District functions with a publicly elected board and is funded by homeowners within the District. The Board allocates funds toward the maintenance and improvement of a neighborhood equestrian ring, a tennis court, horse riding and hiking trails and coordinates with County agencies regarding traffic and safety and the protection of parkway trees within Westfield.
The District has gone by various names including Westfield Recreation and Park; Westfield Park District No. 12; Westfield Park and Recreation District; Westfield Park Recreation and Parkways District #12; Westfield Park Recreation, and Parkways District No. 12. (The Westfield Property Owners Association, which formed in 1951 and incorporated in 1953, is a separate entity.)
