Abstract: The Berkeley Student Cooperative records include meeting minutes, correspondence, legal documents, financial information,
flyers, promotional materials, lists of house members, and lists of central level boarders. Other materials include photographs,
files and correspondence related to reunions of former residents, and other records that document Sheridan Hall, which was
part of the first student housing cooperative in Berkeley, from 1934 to 1943.

The Berkeley Student Cooperative is a 501(c)3 nonprofit housing cooperative that provides affordable housing and board to
students at UC Berkeley and other Bay Area colleges and universities. Their mission is to provide a quality, low-cost, cooperative
housing community to university students, thereby providing an educational opportunity for students who might not otherwise
be able to afford a university education.
Founded in 1933, the BSC is the largest student-housing cooperative in the United States. They are a member of the North American
Students of Cooperation (NASCO), an association of housing, food, and worker cooperatives in the US and Canada.
As of 2023, the BSC had over 1300 student members living in or eating at seventeen houses and three apartment cooperatives
around the UC Berkeley campus.
