Biographical/Historical note
Dwain E. (D. E.) Moore (1915-1976) was born and raised in the state of Indiana. In 1938, he received his BA in Speech and
English from Wabash College, and later received his MA in English from Boston University and PhD in Speech from the University
of Illinois.
After serving in the Army during World War II, Moore returned to Indiana where he taught high school. In 1954, he became a
professor at Sacramento State College (SSC) in the Speech Department. In addition to work on campus, he also served as a speech
consultant for the California Highway Patrol, the State Personnel Board, Standard Oil, Pacific Telephone, and Aerojet General.
In 1965, he wrote the first history book about the SSC campus entitled
Sacramento State College: The First Eighteen Years followed by
20 Years of Higher Education: The History of Sacramento State.
