Biography/Administrative History
The Manzanita Club was one of a number of women's clubs founded in San Jose and Santa Clara County in the late 19th century,
part of the national woman's club movement. Its aim was "the intellectual improvement of its members."
The Constitution of 1913 specified a maximum of 25 members, to be endorsed and approved by a secret committee of three. The
group was to meet at the homes of the members every alternate Monday.
Scope and Content of Collection
Records of the Manzanita Club of San Jose comprise copies of the constitution (1895, 1989, 1913, 1952), yearbooks (1910-1960),
and minute books (October 3, 1898-April 1960).
